Setting Up a Competition

This guide walks you through everything you need to set up and run a boulder competition with BoulderScoring. Each section covers a key part of the setup process.

Before you start

To create a competition, download the BoulderScoring app and create an account. Once logged in, tap Create Competition to begin the setup wizard.

The wizard will walk you through each configuration step. Here's what you'll set up:

  1. Passwords — comp, judge, and admin passwords to control access
  2. Self-Entry vs Judges — decide how scores get entered
  3. Categories — gender, age groups, and skill levels
  4. Scoring — choose your scoring system and configure the rules
  5. Gym Configuration — your gym's details and contact info
  6. Assigning Boulders — map boulders to categories
  7. Teams — optional team competitions
  8. The Approval Process — getting your comp published

Tips for a smooth comp

  • Test your setup with the demo competitions first to see how scoring works
  • Set your boulder count and categories before comp day
  • Share the comp password with climbers at check-in
  • Have a backup plan for climbers without smartphones (a judge can enter scores for them)
