Scoring
BoulderScoring supports several scoring systems. Choose the one that matches your comp format.
Max Attempts
Set the maximum number of attempts a climber gets on each boulder. Common values are 5, 10, or unlimited (set a high number like 30). Once a climber hits the max, they can't log more attempts on that boulder.
Redpoint Scoring
In redpoint scoring, each boulder has its own point value. Harder boulders are worth more points. This is popular for open-format comps where climbers can attempt any boulder.
- You assign a point value to each boulder (e.g., Boulder 1 = 100pts, Boulder 30 = 3000pts)
- A climber's score is the sum of their best boulders
- You can configure how many boulders count toward the total (e.g., top 5 of 30)
Points-Based Scoring
In points-based scoring, every boulder is worth the same base points, but different achievements earn different amounts:
- Top: Reaching the top hold (e.g., 25 points)
- Zone: Reaching the zone hold (e.g., 10 points)
- Low: Reaching the low hold (e.g., 5 points)
You configure how many points each achievement is worth during setup.
Attempt Penalty
You can set a penalty per attempt to reward climbers who send in fewer tries. For example, with a penalty of -0.1, a climber who tops a boulder in 3 attempts scores slightly less than one who flashes it.
Flash Bonus
Award extra points for first-attempt sends. Set this to 0 if you don't want a flash bonus.
Tops Only (Count)
The simplest scoring mode. A climber's score is just the number of boulders they topped. No zones, no points — just count the sends.
Zone Availability
You can configure which scoring zones are active:
- TZLA — Top, Zone, Low, and Attempt tracking (full detail)
- Tops Only — Only track whether the boulder was topped
Number of Boulders to Score
Set how many of a climber's best boulders count toward their total score. For example, in a 30-boulder comp, you might only count the top 5. This prevents endurance from dominating over difficulty.
